Slacking in the Blog Department

Yes, it’s true I’m afraid. I’ve been slacking in the blog department. But I promise, it’s only because all my creative efforts have been in trying to re-design my online portfolio. You can find it here at: www.kelleyfrisby.com At the time of it’s creation, the website that is, I had this vision of a little girl coloring and painting on the living room floor. While that worked for my index or home page, I wanted my portfolio section to really stand out. So I came up with the brilliant idea of having that same little girl’s drawings framed on the wall.

That little girl being an illustrated version of myself, I thought, “oh, how cute that’ll be…I can shrink down my actual paintings and put them inside the frames, then people can click on them and see the painting at a larger size.” While I was able to get it to work, it wasn’t up to the standard I had anticipated. It loads slowly, quite a few of my pictures are just terribly poor quality (either that or they were scanned and didn’t come out as I’d hoped), etc.

Anyway, to make a long story short, there are aspects of the website that I have never been truly happy with, and because this is supposed to be a reflection of the best work that I can do, I felt a whole new look was in order. So I started brainstorming, and created a whole new look for my site. I have to tell you, I’m so excited about what I’ve been working on so far, that if for whatever reason it doesn’t come out like I’ve envisioned, I’m gonna be all butt-hurt. (Giggles while typing) anyway here’s a little preview of my concept sketches. Believe me, I know they’re not much, but this is the way I work…roughing things out initially with thumbnails and then going crazy designing my characters and their environment. As always, ideas and suggestions are appreciated.

Wave goodbye to another one…

This is the last of the molies I have in my possession at the moment. Not for long I’m sure…but a break in mailings it seems.

I don’t follow the rules…

I am changing the game plan. LOL, as my mother often tells me I don’t like to play by the rules. As it turns out I had a nice little group of player who wanted to play but felt they either weren’t creative enough, didn’t have enough followers or didn’t have their own blog. So I’m cancelling my ‘pay it forward’ and gathering up a few readers for a swap. More info to come…

Did somebody say Rum?

A work in progress shot of the current moly book I’m working on, LOL. It’s a monster luau…the one laying in his drunken stupor had one too many Mai Tai’s. Mmmmmm, Mai Tai…who’s bringing the rum?

*sniff*

I received some bad news from the Boyfriend last night….all the hard work I put into creating a new design for my portfolio site was in vain. Yes, because I am a ding-bat and didn’t pay attention to the specific size needed for a new header image. I just went along on my merry way and kept coloring in this cute little design I’ve been sitting on. Hmmm, seems I never follow the rules, doesn’t it? Must be developing a pattern, LOL. So this is the image I had intended for my header but the specs are all wrong so now it’s going to be used somewhere else…maybe the home page…not a total loss but now I’m back to square one to create a new image. Ay yay yay!

Boo!

My mummy wants to wish you all a Happy Hallo-weekend!
This is an ATC (Artist Trading Card) that I did for a group swap I’m involved in over at Tiny Art. We are VERY exclusive, LOL, you have to be invited in. Ah, well they are great people over there, totally low-key and don’t mind when you send things in late. Which is great for me because it seems lately I simply cannot be on time anywhere! What the heck?!?

Just in time for Halloweenie…

I was raiding my mother’s craft-stash this weekend and came across these wooden doll heads. After seeing so many people create such interesting Kokeshi dolls on flickr lately I thought I would improvise with some of her old stow-aways by adding bodies and came up with these guys. Meet Frankie and Drake, two very hip little ghoulies who still need some paint, LOL

I have been working hard on a Card project for a friend as well as my quilt that never-seems-to-end, so they unfortunately have no color to them yet, but VERY SOON!

Someone’s having a giveaway!!

Take a look at these fabrics!! The folks over at Pumpkin Patch Primitives Quilt Shoppe are having a give-away. Just in time for Halloween! Woo hoo. What do you win? Who wants to play Pay it Forward?

Okay, so I’ve never played this before…but I read about it here and here and missed the opportunity so I thought it would be a fun idea to post it and see if I can get enough people to play! The instructions are below, read them carefully!

Let’s play Pay It Forward!! EEK!!

And sooooooo…I am entering into the following contract with the first 5 people who comment on this post and then commit to do the same on their blog. Just read below and if you feel up to the task copy the following into your blog and leave me a comment.

  •  I make no guarantees that you will like what I make. Whatcha get is whatcha get.
  •  What I create will be just for you, with love.
  • It’ll be done this year (2009).
  • I will not give you any clue what it’s going to be. It will be something made in the real world and not something cyber. It may be weird or beautiful. Or it may be monstrous and annoying. (unlikely!) Who knows? Not you, that’s for sure!
  • I reserve the right to do something strange.
  • In return, all you need to do is post this text on your blog and make 5 things for the first 5 to respond to your blog post.
  • Send your mailing address – after I contact you. Come on, don’t be shy. Even if you don’t think you’re the creative type, you might end up surprising yourself – and making 5 other people very happy too!

I read about it and I’m doin’ it!
The first 5 comments on this post who give me confirmation they want to play and who post these same rules on their own blog will get something from we before 2009 is over! Oh my gosh, that’s only 77 more days!!
